Celebrating Canada Day: A Brief History by GFK Immigration
On July 1st, we celebrate Canada Day, marking the birth of our great nation. Canada’s rich history began with Indigenous peoples who have inhabited these lands for thousands of years. European exploration and settlement started in the 15th century, with the French and British establishing colonies.
In 1867, the British North America Act united four provinces—Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia—into the Dominion of Canada. This day, known as Confederation, laid the foundation for the diverse and inclusive country we are proud of today.
From the establishment of the transcontinental railway to the adoption of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Canada has continued to grow and evolve. Our nation thrives on multiculturalism, embracing people from all corners of the globe.
